SPECIES: Dodonaea subglandulifera — Peep Hill Hop-bush
CLASSIFICATION: Endangered
Not-so-lucky to make the endangered list of native flora is the Peep Hill Hop-bush, found in isolated semi-arid locations in the south-east of SA. It grows short, feather-like leaves and flowers grouped in two or three. By design it's dioecious; meaning that it requires a pollinator (bees/ants) to transport pollen from the male to the female plant in order to reproduce.
Threats to the Peep Hill Hop-bush include grazing by domestic stock, invastive weeds, genetic viability and the sheer fragmentation of habitat.
