SPECIES: Darwinia collina — Yellow Mountain Bell

CLASSIFICATION: Critically endangered

There's something to be said for being true to one's name. Yellow Mountain Bell: grows yellow flowers, is found growing on mountain summits and its flowers are bell-shaped. The situation has now become quite critical for this native flora, endemic to just a few small areas within the Stirling Range National Park in WA, it now finds itself classified as critically endangered.

Main threats to Yellow Mountain Bell are dieback caused by Phytophthora cinnamomi, fire and grazing. With the population dwindling, the small number of plants remaining threatens the genetics of the species.
