SPECIES: Tiliqua adelaidensis — Pygmy Blue-tongue Lizard

CLASSIFICATION: Endangered

Thought to be previously extinct, this small reptile was only rediscovered in 1992 is unique to SA.

The Pygmy Blue-tongue Lizard are around 10cm in length, and lives in spider hollows in the ground. Once a common reptile, major threats to the remaining few include agriculture, grazing, land clearing and urban development.

Contrary to its name, it's tongue is rose pink in colour.
