SPECIES: Gastrolobium diabolophyllum — Bodallin Poison

CLASSIFICATION: Critically endangered

Bodallin Poison is known from two sub-populations near the town of Bodallin in WA. It's an open-shrub plant, that likes to grow in sandy ground, with pea-like shaped flowers that are yellow and orange in colour. What's interesting is that Bodallin Poison produces an acid, key in the production of 1080 - highly toxic and used to control introduced predatory animals. There's now only about 3000 plants left, thanks to the threats of road maintenance - including vegetation slashing, clearing, road widening and invasive weeds. An all-to-familiar story for another native species.
