#ThreatenedThursday: Paddle-leaf Daviesia

July 14, 2022

SPECIES: Daviesia obovata — Paddle-leaf Daviesia

Paddle-leaf Daviesia grows exactly that. Paddle-shaped leaves. Endemic to WA, it’s a slender shrub that also grows yellow and black flowers. Known from only 11 subpopulations - probably around 2000 plants in total - perhaps lucky for the species, all populations occur entirely within national parks.

The bonus of the remaining wild plants being in national parks means the threat management for the species is partially done. The big ones - land clearing, fire and disease/dieback due to Phytophthora cinnamomi can be controlled to a certain extent, and less likely to impact plants in a national park habitat.
