SPECIES: Philoria kundagungan – Mountain Frog

CLASSIFICATION: Endangered

The Mountain Frog - also known as the Red and Yellow Mountain Frog (because of its reddy-orange and yellow colouring) is a spectacularly coloured little frog endemic to subtropical and tropical areas of Queensland and NSW. When we say little, the species grows to only 30mm in size.

These little frogs require continually high moisture levels and so their preferred habitat is moist lowland forests and rivers, where they will be found in shallow burrows in the mud or in leaf litter. The risk of local extinction is becoming very real, due to small fragmented populations remaining. Desctruction and degradation of habitat and disease are also high on the list of ongoing threats to this native little trooper.
