#ThreatenedThursday: Dusky Hopping-mouse

August 4, 2022

SPECIES: Notomys fuscus — Dusky Hopping-mouse

The Dusky Hopping-mouse is all sorts of cute. Is it those long, furless, rounded ears? Or perhaps those prominent, dark eyes. Or that fluffy white belly. And what about that tail that’s longer than itself, topped with a tuft of dark hair. The Dusky Hopping-mouse has the ability to go without water, this being quite an advantage living in sand dunes and sand plains of such arid areas across Qld, NT, SA and NSW.

Beware the everpresent threat of feral cats and foxes and be careful the damage overgrazing is having on habitat.
